Weipa to Chilli Beach via the Frenchmans Track

[wowslider id=”12″]We left Weipa via Batavia Downs to the Peninsular Development Road, north for 2km then turned onto the Frenchmans track which disappointingly provided no challenges. The next time we come to the Cape it will have to be a lot earlier in the season so the tracks will provide some challenges. John & Lorna stayed at Archer River Roadhouse. We had lunch and a swim at the Wenlock River with plenty of little fish nibbling on our feet. The Pascoe River was next which apart from the rocky and steep banks, was a straight forward crossing. Next we came across an area of eroded sandstone gorges and of course more termite mounds. At the end of the Frenchmans track we were back onto the Portland Roads Road and arrived at Chilli Beach after dark. We had to pre-book our campsites at Chilli Beach and were told there was only 2 left and they were no where near each other. When we checked them out, one of the sites we had booked was a cleared area with a few sites together and obviously the other people who had booked the remaining sites there had not showed so we took a chance and both camped there, no one else turned up so it all turned out ok. Chilli Beach is another lovely spot only ruined by the fact that you can’t swim in the water!
