El Questro to Drysdale

Thu 30th

After packing up camp today we stopped at the beautiful, warm, Zebedee Springs.  The source of the water supplying the pools originates deep within the earths interior.  High pressure and heat inside the earth keep the water temperature around 32° all year round.

Next we went to Emma Gorge, part of the spectacular Cockburn Ranges, where Jacob insisted on doing the 3.2kn return walk/climb over rocks and boulders himself.

After lunch at the Emma Gorge Resort we headed west along the Gibb River Road.  We got another opportunity for photos at the Pentecoste crossing again which suited us as the afternoon light is better for photographing the range.

That night we camped at Home Valley Station.  Jacob was asleep before we got out of Emma Gorge’s driveway and went straight to bed when we got the camper set up and slept through the night.  We had planned on going to the bar and listening to the live entertainment but couldn’t do that with the little man asleep.

Fri 31st

After leaving Home Valley Station we stopped at Bindoola Falls after a couple of attempts to find them.  They aren’t running at the moment but the rock formations are still impressive.

Driving further west along the Gibb we were flagged down by a foreign tourist in a hire car with a flat tyre.  She was a tiny little thing travelling on her own and couldn’t undo her wheel nuts.  Graham and Michael showed off their impressive man skills by changing the tyre for her within a couple of minutes.

Continuing on we saw a sign for scones, jam and cream for $5 at Ellenbrae Station 5km off the road so we detoured to check it out. After our scone brunch we continued onto Drysdale Station over some rough corrugations.  We set up camp quickly then visited the bar for happy hour.  Coming back to camp in the dark we didn’t see who had turned up late and camped beside us until the next morning.  To be revealed…
