The Tip

We are staying at Punsand Bay for a couple of nights.  Today we will explore the tip, Somerset Ruins, Fly Point, the DC3 Ruins and pick up a few supplies in Bamaga.

First stop was the Tip, the northern most point of Australia.  It was quite a walk over small rocky hills to get to it.  There was plenty of others there so you had to wait your turn to get a photo.  Heading back, a lot of people were around the side of the hill then through shallow water  instead of going back the way we came so we thought we’d join them in the hope that it was an easier walk, it was, however, there were those that got a little freaked out about walking in the water considering your not suppose to swim in it because of salt water crocs and stingers.

Next we stopped at Somerset Beach then Somerset ruins where the Jardine Family who were the first white settlers in Cape York in 1864 made there home and are buried. At this point Jacob was having a great sleep in the truck so I stayed with him and handed photography duties over to Graham.

After a quick look at Fly Point we headed to Bamaga for a few supplies then stopped at the DC3 ruins near the airport which crashed on 5/5/1945 enroute to New Guinea from Archerfield.

Tomorrow we are off to Thursday Island.
